Basic human right: Equity in healthcare access

Healthcare has been universally accepted as a basic human right. Everyone has a right to receive health care irrespective of his or her ability to pay. However, healthcare is one of the basic needs which are seriously lacking for the low income groups in Myanmar. The government should protect the human right by giving free access to health care services.
It is true that free health care for the poor can save their lives. To be humanity, we need to put ourselves in the shoes of the poor. No money no health care access has been happening to our citizens, those patients are left untreated. It is unfair and violating human right. Rich or poor, every individual has the right to grow and enjoy life.
Humans are social beings and we all have social responsibly to give our helping hands to those who are needy. Healthcare system should continue relying primarily on public health services with established performance standards and appropriate budgets. If routine health care and essential preventive care is accessible to all citizens, overall health care cost will be reduced at national level. At the same time, quality of life among citizens will be improved as well. This will also lead to increase healthy human resources among grassroots and thus, their socioeconomic status will be improved.
Improving socioeconomic status of the grassroots people is the main strategy for development of nation’s economy. Therefore, government should allocate enough budgets for health care to improve quality and efficacy in district and general hospital. By increasing allocation for health care, there will be enough resources to provide effective and excellent services.
